by Citation News Editor 14. December 2011

Trans Florida Development Corp. of Miami, a general contractor, was cited by U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration for one willful health and one serious safety violation with total proposed penalties of $66,990.

The citation stems from an accident that occurred in June, 2011, during the installation of a new drain system. A worker using a power saw was overexposed to carbon monoxide emitted from the saw and had to be hospitalized for treatment.

The company was cited for a willful health violation, with a $61,600 penalty, for failing to evaluate the job site and implement procedures to ensure workers were not exposed to toxic substances while working in a confined space. The company was also hit with a willful health violation, with a $5,390 penalty, for failing to provide training on confined space hazards.
